01 / OUR TABLE

Adventure has consequences. The table is a team.

We’re here to make a memorable story together. Bring curiosity, respect, and a character who has a reason to stay with the party.

Death is a real possibility.

Characters can die, and some may. Danger, bad luck and reckless choices can have lasting consequences. The DM is not trying to defeat you, but will not guarantee that every risk ends safely. Retreat, preparation and teamwork matter.

Respect the ruling. Keep the story moving.

Rules guide our play; the DM makes the final ruling at the table for the sake of a fair, flowing game. Brief questions are welcome. If you disagree, accept the ruling for that session and discuss it privately with the DM afterward.

Protect each other’s fun.

No personal arguments, bullying or prolonged rules disputes at the table. Share the spotlight and let others make their own choices. Resolve disagreements outside the session. Anyone can ask for a pause if something makes them uncomfortable.

Show up for the story.

Commit to the agreed play times and give early notice when you cannot attend. Participate, take useful notes, learn what your character can do, and engage with Thearus. Expect occasional small between-session tasks or questions from the DM.

02 / BUILD YOUR HERO

From an idea to a level-3 adventurer.

You do not need to know every rule. Follow these steps, and ask the DM when you get stuck. Your D&D Beyond sheet remains the source for abilities, spells and equipment.

1. Join the Beyond campaign and create a character

Sign in to D&D Beyond. Use our campaign invitation, then create or attach a character to that campaign. Choose the full character builder if you want to work through every choice. If you use a quick builder, review its defaults afterward.

Use the 2024 rules and the 2024 version of a class where available. Turn off Homebrew in the builder’s source settings. No homebrew species/races or classes. Ask the DM before using an older official option or a source you are unsure about; “official” does not automatically mean approved for this campaign.

2. Choose a class and reach level 3

A class describes what your hero does: a fighter relies on martial training, a rogue on skill and precision, a cleric on divine magic, and so on. Read a few class summaries and choose the play style you want. Set your total character level to 3. For a straightforward single-class 2024 character, choose that class’s subclass and complete all choices through level 3.

If you want to multiclass, discuss the idea with the DM before committing. Do not simply select level 3 in every class.

3. Choose species and background

Species describes your ancestry; background describes your life before adventuring. Choose official options suited to your concept. For a 2024 background, complete its ability-score increases, Origin feat, proficiencies and equipment choices. Read the species traits too. You can roleplay a unique person without inventing new rules.

4. Roll your ability scores with the DM

Do not roll alone or lock in ability scores beforehand. Arrange a time to roll together with the DM, who will explain the dice method and any reroll rules. Enter the agreed results into Beyond and apply your background’s increases. Ask which abilities matter most for your class.

5. Finish equipment, hit points and spells

Work through the builder’s equipment and proficiency choices. Review your level-3 hit points, armor class, attacks and subclass features. Spellcasters should check cantrips, available spell levels, spell slots, and which spells are prepared.

Confirm the hit-point method and any extra starting money or items with the DM. Do not add magic items or extra wealth without approval. The DM will review the completed sheet before play.

6. Add a little personality: not a novel

A short paragraph or a few bullet points is plenty. Give us a past, a flaw, someone who matters and a reason to adventure together. You are level 3: capable, but your defining adventures are still ahead. Use the short form below to share your ideas privately with the DM.

7. Connect your character below

Copy the URL of your character sheet and paste it into the connection box. To let this website sync the portrait and summary, open Beyond’s character settings and set Character Privacy to Public. This makes the full Beyond sheet accessible to anyone with its link. Keep confidential backstory details in the private form here.

Our site cannot read a Beyond sheet that requires a Beyond login. If you prefer to keep that sheet private, discuss an alternative with the DM; do not share your password. Linking a sheet does not automatically approve it or add it to the campfire.

Private: only you and the DM can read this brief. A sentence or two for each is enough. Unfinished ideas are welcome.
